We all tend to think there is some future sweet spot where are real lives will finally begin and we can start really living, & loving our lives. But you can't live in the future, any more than you can live in the past.
What if in the race to get somewhere in the future we're missing the beauty of our lives as they exist right now. Read on to find out more...

It is the most beautiful time of year where I am.
It''s the warm, sunny blue-skies and cool mornings of the in-between season. Not exactly Summer, but not quite Fall yet. It's gorgeous and delectable.
And yet... I haven't been making the time to get out there and enjoy it lately... Too busy trying to make the future happen faster.
You know it’s so tempting to think that there’s some magical place in the future where our lives will be better, happier …. Sweeter.
That there’s a door somewhere in the future that we can slip through, a goal we can achieve, a relationship we can enter that will somehow magically start the clock on our real lives — where at last we can be happy & enjoy our lives.
And I’ve noticed a trend, not only in my life, but in so many of yours:
Piling our days high with "to do" lists, action items, wall-to-wall scheduling.
Jam-packing our year with more goals than superwoman could achieve…
Thinking we have to race through our life to get to some imaginary finish line.
And you know what?
We end up missing the very thing so many of us are actually looking for… Time.
The luxury of time & the sweetness of enjoying our lives.
It’s ironic that so many of us are racing through our lives, trying to get “over there” to the good life, that we end up missing it entirely.
We end up missing the moments — the joy, the fun and the beauty of our lives as they are now.
And it’s a sobering thought, but, as much as you can’t live in the past or within sweet memories, you also can’t live in the future. The future never arrives. No matter where we are, or how far we get, we always end up right here, back in the present moment.
The only place where we actually live is the present moment, & lucky for us, it just so happens to be the one place where joy also resides.
Joy, and fun, these are only ever found in this moment right here. In the present.
Goals and "to do" lists are important things. Achievement and growth, not to mention having gas in the car, and clean underwear to wear are all important things.
But feelings are probably the most important thing you do or experience.
And if you aren’t feeling good in your life, on the regular? Or worse, if you’re so busy hustling and striving and trying to get “there” that you don’t know how you feel anymore?
It might be time to take a break, & focus on that something more.
On feeling. And feeling better in particular.
A goal cannot give you that. A future cannot give you that. Only you, in this moment, being luxuriously present and aware, can give you that.
And that time? That sweet time when you are feeling pleasurably grateful for the things in your life? When you are in love with your life, seeing the beauty of it, just as it is right now? Troubles and all?
That is priceless.
You can’t buy that luxury. You can only find it for yourself.
So let’s stop waiting for life to get good, and instead, start letting the good of right now enfold us. Let's get good at giving ourselves the luxury of time. Sweet time.
And with that, let’s go get inspired!
1 Quote
“For just one second, look at your life and see how perfect it is. Stop looking for the next secret door that is going to lead you to your real life.
Stop waiting. This is it: there's nothing else. It's here, and you'd better decide to enjoy it or you're going to be miserable wherever you go.”
— Lev Grossman

From the film "About Time" where a man who's inherited the ability to go back and relive any day, learns the secret of happiness from his father...
...Who tells him to live each day twice. Once as it is, & the second time looking for the sweet moments we all miss by being in hurry & stressed out...
It takes a minute to get into, but it's so worth it for the last 2 minutes... Click here to watch!
After watching, pull out your journal & ask yourself:
What would your day look like if you stopped rushing through it?
How would your experience change if you were able to let of go of all the tension & worries that stop us from experiencing the sweet moments in our lives?
&
"What would it feel like to slow down, to make eye contact with the people around you, to connect & see the beauty in front of you, to be open to sweet moments in your day?
3 Weekly Way to Play
The To-Do List Cleanse Make your to do list or schedule as usual. Now, take a look at it and ask yourself: Is there time in it to live? Do you have space in your schedule to breath, to each lunch, to take breaks, to connect with people in your life and really see them? Does this schedule reflect only your ambitions? Or does it reflect you as a human and your values? Does it have time for your family or friends in it? Does it have time for rest? For your spirituality? Now, take five things off of the “to do” list or the schedule. Yes, five. Just for one day.
See how it feels to have time: time to be present and to fully live your life. A well-lived life takes more than mere productiveness. It takes time.
